Before planning your professionnal development as a freelancer for 2023, it’s smart to take the time to review the last 12 months.
If you wanna grow your business to success, it’s important to look at what worked for you and what didn’t in the past. Then, you can start planning actions to achieve specific goals and avoid making the same failure twice.
Look at the goals you had for 2022 and notice what did work for you and what did not. Do it with as much detachement as possible. Be open to learn from your past mistakes knowing they are part of the process.
Approach your review with a positive attitude
When reviewing the previous year, we are many to focus on the goals we didn’t achieve but I would advice you start by looking at what went well first. To help you do so you might wanna answer the following questions.
- What accomplishment are you proud of?
- What made you the most money?
- What did you enjoy the most doing?
Make sure you don’t only look at numbers but also at what gave you the most joy. Write your successes down to remember it.
Aknowledging what works for you is super important. We are all good at different things and remember that doing what you love was probably one of the reasons you became a freelancer.
Have a look at what didn’t work out
What could you consider a failure? Why didn’t you complete some of your goals? Are they still important for your business?
At this point it is important not to judge yourself. Look at what didn’t work out for you this year as if you were reviewing a friend’s year and make sure you don’t beat yourself up.
If a project failed, it’s important to aknowledge it first to be able to learn from it.
Time is money
- Are you nurturing projects that have good return in profit?
- What are you putting your time and energy in?
- Is it worth the investment?
Those are important questions to ask yourself.
Make a list of the tasks you don’t enjoy and don’t lie to yourself: Would it be in your interest to dedicate it some of your time for the year to come?
Reflecting on the previous year will help you grow your business for sure. It isn’t always confortable, especially if there were a lot of things that you didn’t manage to accomplish in 2022 but this is the best way to set goals and intentions for the year to come. Being a freelancer gives you more freedom to adapt and change the way you work if needed. That is why answering those questions and learning from your past is so valuable.
